It is often believed (and said) that so-called "pink" medallions were used on the orders of St. George only until 1850s. This is not entirely true. Although model specimens of St.George orders that were made by official supplier of the Capitula Julius Keibel in 1870 already have "red" medallions https://asiamedals.info/threads/orders-of-saint-george-made-by-julius-keibel-workshop-ik.25640/ crosses with "pink" medallions were still in use and even issued by Imperial Capitul /Kapitul; Capitulum/. The latest time coordinate for such cross known for today is 1869 https://asiamedals.info/threads/1st-and-4th-class-st-george-orders-of-emperor-wilhelm-i.25641/
Here we have a very interesting (and beautiful) privately commissioned cross of 4th class in gold from approximately 1870s.
Private collection. Photos courtesy of the owner.
Gold, enamel.
Size 37 mm.
Marked with St. Peterburg assay office mark for gold "56" and IK (?). If it is indeed IK than this cross was privately commissioned from the Julius Keibel workshop.
Beautifully executed medallion.
Under different light.
So-called "bulbous" type of cross.
