Alexey Karlovich Alfthan (Russian: Алексей Карлович Альфтан ; Swedish: Alexis Karlsson Alfthan; December 22, 1813 (January 3, 1814), Silesia – November 25 (December 7) , 1885, Annenskoye, Russian Empire) came from the nobility of the Moscow province. He was born on December 22, 1813 (January 3, 1814) in the family of Karl Wilhelm Alftan (August 13, 1789 - July 11, 1866) and his first wife, Katharina Nabel. His brother was Apollon Karlsson Alftan, a landowner, glass manufacturer, and staff captain.
From 1828 to 1831 he studied at the Vyborg Primary School, after which he entered the cadet school in Friedrichshamn. After graduating, on July 22, 1835, he received the rank of cornet and on August 14, 1836, he was assigned to the Uhlan Regiment in St. Petersburg.
In 1841 he was transferred to the Uhlan Life Guards Regiment , and in 1843 to the Guards Regiment of Horse Grenadiers. He served in the Caucasus. He distinguished himself in battles with the highlanders , received the rank of captain and in 1844 was transferred to the Zhitomir 56th Infantry Regiment . In 1847 he was awarded the rank of captain , in 1852 - colonel , on March 23, 1866 - major general , and on April 16, 1878 - lieutenant general .
From November 26, 1858 to February 5, 1866, he commanded the Yamburg Uhlan Regiment. From 1866 to 1876, he was the commander of the 6th Reserve Cavalry Brigade.
He retired in 1881 and died in 1885 at his estate Annovka.
