Born in Paris on May 3, 1835, Michel Aloÿs was the eldest of Michel Louis Félix Ney, second son of the marshal Ney, and Marie Joséphine Souham, daughter of the general and widow in the first marriage of Amédée Louis Henri Bourdon de Vatry. Enlisted in the 7th Dragoon Regiment in 1852. Second lieutenant in the 7th Hunters in 1854, he moved to the 1st African Hunter Regiment in 1855 where he was lieutenant in 1859 and captain in 1863. He went on campaigns from 1855 to 1866: in Africa, from September 25, 1855 to May 14, 1859, in Italy, from May 15 to August 22, 1859, in Africa, from August 23 to September 10, 1860, in Syria from September 11, 1860 to June 17, 1861, in Africa from June 18 1861 to January 20, 62, in Mexico from January 21, 1862 to March 17, 1866. Squadron leader of the 5th Hussars, the 2nd Hunters and the 6th Hussars in 1865; commanding the counter-guerrilla force in the Mexican Hotlands from March 9 to December 22, 1865; cited in the general order of the expeditionary force for the capture by force of the place of Téocaltiche, January 29, 1864, and for his enthusiasm in the pursuit directed against Negrete, June 8, 1865. Orderly officer of the emperor Napoleon III from August 27, 1866 to January 22, 1868. Lieutenant-colonel in the 7th Dragoons in 1868. Colonel in the 3rd Dragoons in 1870, he participated in the campaign against Germany from July 22 to October 29, 1870, and was wounded by three shots saber to the head and two to the arm during the battle of Rezonville, August 16, 1870. Then he served in the 9th Lancers and 20th Dragoons in 1871, and in the 6th Chasseurs à cheval in 1872. Brigadier general in 1875, he commanded the 3rd brigade of Cuirassiers in 1877, the 3rd brigade of Hunters on horseback in 1879. He committed suicide at Fontenay aux Roses, February 23, 1881.
