Orders of Saint George made by Afanasy Panov /A•P/

Goldsmith Afanasy Vassiliewich Panov /золотых дел мастер Афанасий Васильевич Панов/ between 1802 and 1820 made 52 large crosses of 1st/2nd class St. George order (+ 2 crosses were repaired) and 1065 small crosses of 3rd/4th classes. It total 1117 Saint George crosses were manufactured.

Crosses with maker's mark "A•P" are not known for today, therefore, the attribution is conjectural and based on the period of awarding (and number of known crosses), typical for Panov-made crosses St. Petersburg assay office gold hallmarks and the general style/quality of the workmanship.​

As you can see, there are two versions of the iconography of the monogram of St. George on the reverse

and two variants of the Saint George mantle and spear position (+numerous small details).
