The earliest time coordinate for mark 大 is set by the 1914-1915 War medal.






The highest (theoretical) time coordinate for this mark will be 1929 i.e. the year when Japanese mint started to manufacture orders and medals.

 

So who hides behind this mark?

One possibility might be

大 for 大阪市造幣局?/ Ō for Osaka Mint?

But as for today there is no empirical evidence to support this hypothesis.

Who hides behind this mark? The answer could be found on the cases for rosettes marked with the very same mark 大. The stamp reads 大橋製 - made by Ōhashi workshop 大 for 大橋 /Ōhashi
