25th Anniversary of Empress Maria Feodorovna's Patronage of Her Majesty's Cavalry Guards Regiment Jetton for Lower Ranks

The Cavalry Guards Regiment of Her Majesty Empress Maria Feodorovna traces its history back to January 11, 1799, when the Cavalry Guards Corps was established by the Supreme Order for the formation of the Guards of the Person of the Grand Master of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Emperor Paul I, and exactly one year later it was reformed into the Cavalry Guards Regiment. All non-commissioned officers and privates of the Cavalry Guards were from the nobility. Empress Maria Feodorovna (1847–1928) was appointed the regiment’s chief on March 2, 1881, the day after the death of her father-in-law, Emperor Alexander II. The regiment was part of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Guards Cavalry Division, and was stationed in St. Petersburg.

Jetton was approved by the Emperor on March 2, 1906. Jettons were commissioned by Empress Maria Feodorovna (1847-1928) and were worn on a chain. On the front side of the jetton, under the imperial crown, there is a monogram of the Empress's name, on the back side, the anniversary dates are indicated: "1881 / 2 MARCH / 1906". A total of 835 jettons and chains for cuirassiers were made at a price of 85 and 15 kopecks respectively. The invoice for their production was paid by the Empress on August 23, 1906, and the money for the completed order was received by the eldest son of Karl Faberge, Eugene.
