The Nakajima Army Type 91 Fighter /九一式戦闘機/ was a Japanese fighter of the 1930s. It was a single-engine, single-seat parasol monoplane with a fixed, tailwheel undercarriage. Between 1931 and 1934, 420 aircraft were constructed.
"Patriotic" Type 91 Fighters were privately donated to the Army and have special numbers that include name of the donor. Aikoku 38 Kyoto / 愛国38 (京都 )/ was 38th such fighter donated by Kyoto City /or more precisely by the "citizens of Kyoto"/. Fighters that were donated to the Army received prefix "Aikoku"/愛国 - patriotism/ while fighters donated to the Navy received prefix "Hokoku" /報国 -tribute to the country/.
