Josef Boris Wuchterle (25 May 1891 Vránov – 21 December 1923 Prague), later also using the Czechized form of the surname Vuchterle, was one of the first members of the Czech Detachment in Russia and a Czechoslovak legionnaire. As commander of the 10th company of the 3rd battalion of the 1st Czechoslovak Rifle Regiment, he was seriously wounded in the Battle of Zborov. In 1919 and 1920, he organized the evacuation of Czechoslovak legionnaires from Russia back to their homeland.
During his military career, Josef Wuchterle received many decorations. The first was the Russian Cross of St. George, 4th class in 1915, followed by the Order of St. Stanislaus, 3rd class with swords and ribbon, in 1916 the Medal for Bravery and the Cross of St. George, 3rd class. After the Battle of Zborov in 1917, the Order of St. Anne, 3rd class with swords and bow and the Cross of St. George, 2nd class.
In 1919, the British King George V awarded him the Distinguished Service Order, and he also received the Czechoslovak Order of the Falcon with Swords (Štefánik Order) and the War Cross 1914–18 and the French War Cross 1914–18 with palm leaf.
In 1920 he was awarded the Chinese Order of Striped Tiger, 4th class, and the Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure, 3rd class. In the same year he also received the French Legion of Honor, 5th class, the Belgian War Cross 1914–18, and the Czechoslovak Revolutionary Medal, and in 1921 the Inter-Allied Victory Medal.
