Fère-Champenoise is a small town 120 km east of Paris. On March 24 (12), 1814, the main part of the French army was cut off from Paris, where 23 thousand soldiers of the infantry corps were concentrated, and moved to join Napoleon’s main forces. Not far from Fer-Champenoise, she met with the Russian-Austrian cavalry of 16 thousand soldiers, including 12 thousand Russians. A battle took place that showed the high fighting qualities of the Russian cavalry and the heroism of Russian soldiers. The total French losses were about 11 thousand people, while the Allies lost about two thousand. And although this battle did not end the war, contemporaries called it the threshold of the conquest of Paris and the fall of Napoleon.

This particular St. George's trumpets do not indicate the regiment to which they belonged. However, documents have been preserved showing that the inscription “For bravery against the enemy at Fer-Champenoise on March 13, 1814” was engraved on nineteen trumpets granted to the Life Guards Dragoon Regiment /Лейб-гвардии Драгунский полк/.​
