Niitaka /新高製菓/ was a confectionery company headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, under Japanese rule. It was founded by Mori Heitaro (November 23, 1869 - January 1946), a confectioner from Kitayama Village, Saga Prefecture (now Fuji Town, Saga City). Known for its Niitaka drops and banana caramel, Niitaka was one of the three major confectionery manufacturers along with Morinaga & Co., Ltd. and Meiji Seika Co. , Ltd. and, Ezaki Glico was one of the four major caramel manufacturers before the war. It also supplied military rations such as hardtack and caramel, and became one of the leading confectionery companies not only in Japan but in Asia as well. However, after Japan's defeat in the war, the company's Taiwanese assets, including Ichirokuken and its head office factory, were seized by the Republic of China , and the death of its founder in 1946, the company was unable to keep up with the changing times and went out of business in 1971.
Like other confectionery manufacturers, the company promoted its products by including "freebies" with them, and as part of this, it published comic booklets and commissioned different badges and watch fobs.
In 1931 Niitaka launched its bubble gum, which created a boom.
