Ring marked with a French import gold hallmark "owl" /introduced in 1893 and stamped on imported gold jewellery, it is also since 1902 a so-called chance hallmark, stamped on any foreign gold object or one without a legible French maker’s mark brought to the assay office by second-hand jewellery dealers/.

Waterhouse, Royal Engineers /he was awarded with the Order of St. Anne for operations in Archangel in 1919: "Government of the Northern Region has awarded you for gallant conduct in action against the enemies of Russia, June 18, 1919"; "Order of St. Anne 3rd Class with swords for gallant conduct in action against the enemies of Russia" (London Gazette 16 July 1921)/.​

Marked with a French silver hallmark "boar's head" /iconography of the cross is very close to Chobillion https://asiamedals.info/threads/orders-of-saint-anna-made-by-chobillion-paris.27851 but swords and guilloché are different/.

Hubert Preston Waterhouse was born in January 1885 and was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Wolverhampton. Enlisting in the Worcestershire Regiment (T.F.) in September 1914, he transferred to the London Electrical Engineers in January 1915 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the latter unit in September 1916. Waterhouse was appointed an Acting Captain in June 1918 and went on to witness active service in North Russia in the following year. He relinquished his commission in September 1921 but was allowed to retain the rank of Captain.​

1st class Saint Anna that was privately-comissioned by Major-General Sir Frederick Adam https://asiamedals.info/threads/maj...dam-awards-and-decorations.28828/#post-367179 after 1828 /permission to accept and wear 1st class order of Saint Anne, "which the late Emperor of Russia (was) pleased to confer upon him, "in testimony of… his services before the enemy in The Netherlands, in the year 1815." was granted by the King to Lord High Commissioner to The United States of the Ionian Islands Major-General Sir Frederick Adam on September 15, 1828/.​
