In 1867 he was sent on a special mission as Envoy Extraordinary to Russia to Emperor Alexander II, to invest the emperor with the Order of the Garter.

For this he was awarded with the order of St. Alexander Nevsky.
 
It looks like he bought himself another badge while in St. Petersburg.
Badge was made in 1854 by Karl Shubert /RS/ workshop and has a fancy (and very popular during this time period) dark cherry (a.k.a. "black") flat enamel.

Gold, enamel.
Size 54 x 60 mm.
Thickness 2 mm.
