Nagatsu Sahishige (永津佐比重; March 1, 1889 – September 19, 1979) wa born in Aichi Prefecture, Nishikasugai District, Shikatsu Village. After attending Aichi First Junior High School (now Aichi Prefectural Asahigaoka High School), he graduated from the Army Academy (23rd class) in May 191. In December of the same year, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry and assigned to the 18th Infantry Regiment. In November 1920, he graduated from the Army War College (32nd class).
He served as company commander of the 18th Infantry Regimen , attached to the General Staff, attached to the China Garrison Army Headquarters, staff officer of the same army, and member of the General Staff and was stationed in the United States from February 1925 to December 1927. After returning to Japan, he served as an instructor at the Army War College, member of the General Staff, battalion commander of the 68th Infantry Regiment, assistant military attaché at the Chinese Legation , attached to the 49th Infantry Regiment , and staff officer of the Kwantung Army. [H was on a business trip to Europe and the United States from June to December 1934. After serving as staff officer of the Kwantung Army , he was promoted to Colonel in the Army in August 1935. He served as section chief in the General Staff and commander of the 22nd Infantry Regiment, and in July 1938, he was promoted to Major General and assigned to the North China Area Army Headquarters (Supreme Military Advisor to the Provisional Government of North China).
In March 1941 , he was promoted to lieutenant general, and the following month he was appointed commander of the 20th Division and stationed in Korea. In August 1942 , he became deputy chief of staff of the China Expeditionary Army and chief of the Shanghai Army Department, and after serving as commander of the 13th Army, he became commander of the 58th Army. He was on Jeju Island preparing for an Allied landing, when the war ended. He was demobilized in November 1945.
