Kumagaya Army Flying School was established in December 1935. It provided basic training in flying aircraft to students who would become non-commissioned officers in the aviation corps. School was closed in February 1945 when it was reorganized as part of the 52nd Air Division. The school headquarters and main campus were located in Osato District, Saitama Prefecture (present-day western Kumagaya City), with branch schools in various locations. The forme school site is now the Kumagaya Air Base of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
