Imperial Soldiers' Relief Association (a.k.a Imperial Soldier’s Relief League or Imperial Soldiers' Support Association) was established on January 5, 1896 under the name Soldier’s Bereaved Families Relief Association /軍人遺族救護義會/.
It was headquartered in Tokyo (Wakamatsu-cho, Ushigome-ku) and had a nation-wide network of branches in each town, district and prefecture. The association’s purpose was to provide financial and social support for disabled soldiers and support the families of soldiers who went to the front.
In 1899 it became a public interest incorporated association /社團法人/.
In 1906 the name of the association was change to Imperial Soldiers' Relief Association /帝國軍人後援會/.
On June 7, 1906 Emperor Meiji expressed his gratitude to the Association for its work during Russo-Japanese War.
The President of Association was a member of the Imperial family.
