Highly unusual collar with an even more unusual four armed "Maltese Asterisk" cross. Could be a Saint Andrew masonic lodge insignia. Collar was donated to the Museum collection in 1878 by Lieutenant general Augustus William Henry Meyrick /British army officer and collector. He presented a large collection of Asian arms and Greek, Roman and Egyptian antiquities and playing-cards to the British museum in 1878, the same year he sold a number of Oceanian objects to the BM; cousin of Sir Samuel Rush Meyrick (q.v.) whose collection he inherited and later sold/.
