Established by the Order of Minister of War No.34 on May 10, 1944.

Badge was intended for the flight personnel /空中勤務者/ and was worn together with Air Force Breast Badge https://asiamedals.info/threads/air-force-breast-badge.24523/. Flight personnel included 操縦者 - Pilots, 偵察者 - Observes, 爆撃手 - Bombardiers, 無線手 - Radio Operators and 旋回機関銃手 - Machine‐gunners.​

Ground personnel /地上勤務者/ were not allowed to wear this badge.
