Alexander II was awarded with 4th class Saint George order on November 10, 1850.

Official Citation.

"…на пути из Воздвиженской креп, в Ачхой, между реками Рошня и Валерик, наткнулся на партию горцев. Произошла схватка, в которой наследник престола проявил выдающееся мужество и по представлению тогдашнего наместника Кавказа, кн. Воронцова, был пожалован орд. Св. Георгия 4 ст."

"... on the way from Vozdvizhenskaya krep to Achkhoy, between the rivers Roshnya and Valerik, [he] stumbled upon a party of mountaineers. A battle took place in which the heir to the throne showed outstanding courage and at the suggestion of the then governor of the Caucasus Prince Vorontsov was awarded the order of St. George 4 class. 4th class Saint George order cross from the collection of State Historical Museum under a different light.

 

Cross was transferred to the collection of State Historical Museum in 1930 from the collection of Military Historical Museum. In the lists of items that were transferred from the Regimental Museum of the 12th Astrakhan Grenadier Regiment /полковой музей 12-го Астраханского гренадерского полка/ to Military Historical Museum, the following is written about this cross: "Gift of the nephew of Captain Kvitnitsky. The Cross of St. George (the lower part without enamel) on a ribbon is a silver plate with the inscription: “The cross from the chest of the Sovereign Emperor Alexander II, laid by him personally on November 28, 1877/Дар племянника капитана Квитницкого. Крест Георгиевский (нижняя часть без эмали) на ленте серебряная дощечка с надписью: "Крест с груди Государя Императора Александра ІІ, возложенный им лично 28 ноября 1877 г.".

"Когда же, 2-го декабря, назначенъ былъ парадъ войскамъ, бывшимъ подъ Плевной, Государь лично благодарилъ всѣ полки за ихъ боевую службу, а подъѣхавъ къ нашему полку, Его Величество вызвалъ впередъ офицеровъ, долго говорилъ съ ними, далъ лично Георгіевскій крестъ генералу Квитницкому и знакъ военнаго ордена рядовому Жданову, обнялъ и поцѣловаль командира полка и, обратясь ко всему полку, громко сказалъ: „Спасибо, астраханцы, вы даете Мнѣ отпускъ въ Россію", — и дѣйствительно, пробывъ при войскахъ безотлучно 6 мѣсяцевъ, Государь послѣ паденія Плевны уѣхалъ въ Петербургъ".​
