Colonel Sir Alfred Mordaunt Egerton was born on the 30th March 1843, he was the youngest son of the Rev Thomas Egerton and Charlotte daughter of Sir William Milner, Bart of Nunappleton. He married the Hon Mary Georgina Ormsby-Gore, daughter of the 2nd Lord Harlech, 1878. He was educated at Eton, and then served in the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade; Second Lieutenant 23.7.1861; Lieutenant 19.12.1865. He served in India from 1863-66, then joined the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade, serving in Canada from 1866-68. He joined the Royal Horse Guards in 1869; Captain 19.8.1874; Major 1.7.1881. He eventually retired as Colonel in 1888. He served as Equerry to H.R.H. the Duke of Connaught, from 1878. He was Comptroller and Treasurer to H.R.H. from 1890. He died on 26th May 1908.
