朱占魁 - Zhu Zankui /according to the PRC Marshal Nie Rongzhen‘s memoirs Zhu Zankui who was tenth subdistrict commander of the central Hebei district, was captured by the Japanese army on November 27, 1941, in Dalige Village, Qingyuan County, Hebei Province for a year and then returned to the military district claiming he had fought the enemy and escaped during transport. Nie was skeptical, "At the time, I was cautious and didn’t let him return to Jinzhong, keeping him in Zaibei for a while. In 1943, when we went to Yan’an, we took him for a serious examination. However, in Yan’an, no conclusion was reached, and the matter was left unresolved." After Japan’s surrender, Zhu returned to the Jin-Cha-Ji base area and became the deputy commander of the military subdistrict. According to Nie "He never changed: he defected to the Kuomintang during the early stage of the Liberation War, taking his guards and two horses with him."
