安奉線改築 - Anfeng Line (a.k.a. Antung–Mukden Line) Reconstruction

紀念 - Commemorative

During the Russo-Japanese War, the Japanese military hastily built a narrow-gauge (2-foot-6-inch) light railway between Antung (now Dandong, on the Korean border) and Mukden (now Shenyang). Because it was slow and inefficient, the SMR undertook a massive engineering project to completely rebuild the line into a standard-gauge railway, standardizing it with the rest of the SMR network.

August 4, 1911 - this date marks the completion of the track-laying (the linking of the rails) for the newly converted standard-gauge Antung–Mukden Line.

October 1, 1911 - the fully reconstructed, standard-gauge line was officially opened to regular traffic.
