1891 In Memory of Tsarevich Nicholas Visit to Hankou Gold Jeton/Жетон в память посещения цесаревичем Николаем Ханькоу в 1891 году

Interesting jeton that was made in commemoration of the Eastern journey of Tsesarevich of Russia (future Nicholas II) in 1890–91 around the greater part of the Eurasian continent. The total length of the journey exceeded 51 000 kilometers, including 15 000 km of railway and 22 000 km of sea routes. On 13 March, expedition reached Hankow in China, where Tsesarevich visited tea plantations and factories.

Jeton modelled as a brick tea packet, the hinged cover applied with the diamond-set crowned cypher of Tsarevich Nicholas, within a ribbon-tied laurel wreath, the cypher flanked by Chinese wish for luck and prosperity in black enamel.​

Gold, enamel, diamonds.
Height 40 mm.

Marked with Moscow assay office gold hallmark "56" and maker's mark "НШ/NSh"

Reverse Russian inscription reads "[To] Vasilii Mikhailovich Kuznetsov/Василию Михайловичу Кузнецову".

The interior with an oval bezel and Russian inscription "In Memory of Visiting Hankou 7-9 April 1891/В память посещения Ханькоу 7-9 апреля 1891".​
