The Tauran Incident /タウラン事件/ was fought between forces of the Soviet Union, Mongolia, Japan and Manchukuo, during the Soviet-Japanese border conflicts, for control of the Mongolian border village of Tauran. On March 11, 1936 128 men of the Mongolian People's Army, accompanied by six Soviet advisors, marched into the village and drove out the small Manchukuoan force stationed there. Later on the same day, a larger force of 400 men, both Japanese and Manchukuoan, supported by 10 armored cars and dozens of warplanes, which bombed the village overnight, returned and took back the village by force. The second engagement of the day saw the 56 deaths on the Mongolian side (including the commanding officer), 3 among the Soviet advisory staff, and 27 on the Japanese-Manchukuoan side. After the engagement, the Japanese-Manchukuoan troops buried the Mongolian dead in a unmarked mass grave. The grave was found in 2008.
